Training of Trainers

Where and when

19-21 June 2011, Courtyard Tbilisi Hotel, Tbilisi, Georgia

From 19-21 June, a team of experienced trainers consisting of Sami Faltas, Angela Mackay, Peter Vanhoutte and Erik Sportel engaged in a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) workshop for Georgian practitioners in the field of oversight of the security sector. The aim was to create a group of potential trainers that would be able to continue working with our materials or start training initiatives themselves.

During three days a group of eleven enthusiastic trainees with a background in parliamentary, civil society or university work embarked on a road to develop their skills as a trainer. By means of practical exercises combined with feedback and experience sharing by the trainers, the trainees made impressive progress in such a short period of time.

A group of five ‘alumni’ of the ToT joined us for the third training course in the framework of the Georgia Parliamentary Programme. Here they were engaged in the running of the course. Together with the trainers, they also developed an exercise, which they led on the third day of the training. For the last training course, we hope to involve other participants of our ToT in the same manner, thus continue building their capacity as a trainer.
