Advanced Course on Security Sector Reform

Where and when

22-26 March 2010, RACVIAC, Zagreb, Croatia


The purpose of the Advanced Course on Security System Reform is to bring together respective representatives from relevant ministries, regional and local authorities, international organizations and NGOs, with a view to obtaining detailed insights in the principles of Security System Reform. The objectives supporting this purpose are as follows:
- To gain detailed knowledge of the concept of Security System Reform (SSR), as advocated by the Development Assistance Committee of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD DAC);
- To discuss SSR in various European policy domains thoroughly, especially ESDP, development and EU enlargement;
- To dwell on the need for, and challenges of, cooperation between various government agencies, and between government and civil society. It will also look in some detail at SSR in specific policy domains, like defence, police and the judiciary.
