CESS hosts EUCAM programme

CESS in collaboration with the EUCAM initiative (www.eucentralasia.eu) have been awarded a grant to raise the profile of Europe-Central Asian relations and help strengthen European policies towards Central Asia. The project will run over the course of 2017.

EUCAM was developed by FRIDE (a former international think tank from Madrid) in 2008, where it was implemented through December 2015. EUCAM has established itself as a knowledge hub providing information and expert opinion on Europe-Central Asian relations. Over the years, EUCAM has published over 100 working papers, policy briefs, commentaries and newsletters. Also over 25 roundtables and conferences in Central Asia, Europe and the United States were organised. With the conclusion of FRIDE’s activities in December 2015, EUCAM’s coordinator and associate researchers have been committed to keep the initiative alive as there remains a need for independent analyses on Europe’s policies towards Central Asia. With CESS, the EUCAM initiative has found a strong host where both can enforce each others activities and further built on earlier collaboration concerning security and good governance in Central Asia.

The purpose of EUCAM is to critically scrutinize European policies towards Central Asia, to enhance the knowledge of European engagement with Central Asia through top-quality research, to raise awareness on the importance of Central Asia and European engagement, to discuss European policies among Central Asian communities, and to expand the network of experts and institutions from Europe and Central Asia to provide a forum for debate. In reviving EUCAM, as a European think tank initiative, CESS foresees to impact European policy communities through innovative research.
